The 2010 Muskie Girl’s Tennis team started their season out strong, with Jim Barkema as a head coach, and Jim Lankey for assistant. “My favorite part about tennis is that it is an individual sport, so there’s no one to blame but yourself, so it makes you a stronger competitor,” said Mackenzie Viner, junior. Tennis might be the shortest season, but it’s definitely one of the harder sports.
This the team will be losing quite a few seniors. But with a sophomore playing number one singles, and three juniors follow the next three places, they should be strong next year. They had a lot of new faces for JV, and the coaches are really looking forward to seeing how much they grow and progress in the next few years. As the season winds down, the girls are very happy with the outcome of their season and the overall team’s record. Although their record means a lot, the girls say that what matters even more than that is that they all have memories that they will never forget. They finished out the season with satisfied coaches, satisfied players, and a winning and successful attitude.
