A Driven Eagle Scout
By Brittany Blaesing
Not many kids know what they want to do with their life in eighth grade, but that wasn’t the case with Robert Weaton. Weaton is the son of Bob and Alice Weaton, and was born in Saint Louis, MO. Bob worked for the Boy Scouts of America, and Alice was a school cook. Weaton didn’t have a lot growing up; his family didn’t have lots of money. This didn’t stop him from accomplishing his dreams; he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa. There he received is BA and masters in education.
Through his life Weaton has decided that this quote would be his life motto, “When you were born you cried and the world rejoiced, live your life so that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.” This is a motto many people could live by.
Weaton is currently the principal of Muscatine High School, but this hasn’t always been the case. He worked as a teen at a boy scout camp, Henry’s Hamburgers and the YMCA. Weaton said, “I was an excellent hamburger flipper and the world needs great hamburger flippers.” He has worked at six schools total but only two of these schools has he been an administrator. For 23 years Weaton taught various classes all within the history department. He has taught U.S. History, World Civilization, Sociology, and Government. He taught Government the longest of all these classes. On top of being a teacher Weaton was a very dedicated coach. He coached football for the 23 years he was a teacher.
Weaton said, “If I had to choose one word to describe me it would be driven.”
